Benicia author happy with first book

Published Friday July 22

Daniel Smith has always been a big-time baseball fan. But the longtime Benician never considered writing a book on the sport. That would basically be blasphemy.

“I’m fanatical about it. It’s like my religion,” Smith.

Actually, the 59-year-old former journalist thought that one day when he would author his first book, “it would be about history.”

Smith recently unveiled “Stepping Stones: The Story of San Pablo, Last Small Town in the Bay.”

“I’m jolly with it,” Smith remarked by phone Wed preparing for his Jul thirty book release and signing at the Blume Property Museum, 13831 San Pablo Ave., in San Pablo.

For years, “gambling was relegated to the back rooms,” Smith said.

Article length: About 410 words.
